Ashkelon’s Artists and Craftspeople 

Perhaps this is due to the city’s extensive history, its direct proximity to the great sea, or the fact that Ashkelon has absorbed countless cultural influences over the ages. One thing is for sure - the city is abundant in artists and craftspeople who derive their inspiration from it. Many of them open their homes, which act as galleries, to visitors by appointment - which will certainly give your holiday in Ashkelon a different and original facet.  

The Late Ilana Shafir’s Garden

the home of the world-renowned mosaic artist, who passed away in 2014, is popular with many visitors who come here to admire the unique mosaic works that she created. These are wonderful treasures, different from anything you have ever seen. In fact, Shafir created a new genre in the field, with an emphasis on spontaneity, recycling and creating art from natural materials.  2 Kaapstadt St., groups only, 052-5724440

Eli Zarfati

A multidisciplinary artist whose works have been exhibited in Israel, Europe, and the USA, he is a graduate of the Bezalel School of Art and has won numerous awards. He is a well-known teacher in Ashkelon and a member of the Israel Artists Association.

Hannah Raviv’s Garden

Raviv has worked in the field of plastic arts for over three decades, you can visit her garden to see her works in a variety of media: painting, sculpture, pottery and mosaics.  60 Gidon Ben Yoash St, 08-6734485.

Lili and Rafi Hertzberg’s Garden

The couple’s home and garden is brimming with their works of art - she works in ceramics and he creates sculptures from stone, metal and ceramics.  29 HaIlan St., 08-6734226.

Nira Portugeli’s Garden

Dina Zeifer

this artist, who studied under the renowned Rafi Lavie, engages in painting and also in reliefs and sculpture.  2 Achva St., 052-3599281.

Rachel Mazaltrin

comes from a family of artists, she works mainly in oils and acrylics and specializes in landscapes, portraits and abstracts.  131/2 Jerusalem Blvd., 052-6177229.

Rachel Ron

Ann and Isaac Lioz

Ann, who hails from England, is a painter who specializes in a variety of styles and materials - from oil paints to charcoal. Isaac engages in ceramic sculptures.  4 Avishag St., 08-6750498.

Ella Rosenberg

Edna Ben Ami
